September 7, 2020 - You scream, I scream, we all scream for... cockroaches?
We had a lot of exciting things happen last week. The most important thing that happened was that our friend Paola decided that she wants to be baptized!! She is SO excited it makes me so happy!!! So they have a difficult situation as a family, so please add them in your prayers! Even though they have so many trials in their lives, they have the biggest hearts. Last time they made us the most amazing tacos and after this lesson they went and bought us McDonald's :)) I love them so much!
Okay now the funniest thing involved mouses (as my companion calls them) and A TON of cockroaches. So we were volunteering at the Japanese Gardens and we were the only volunteers that showed up so Diana and Barbara-they work there- asked us if we would clean up some wooded posts and organize them. So we started picking them up and ants started to destroy my ankles so we sprinkled some ant killer on those puppies and in 5 minutes it was fine. So then we started to take the posts out of this barrel. We had taken like 3 out and then a couple cockroaches came out and we stomped on them. So then Diana came back to help us and we tipped the barrel over and THOUSANDS (more like 50 but same thing) OF COCKROACHES POURED OUT and Hermana Crandall was like "AHHHH RAT" so we booked it. So Diana checked and said that it was just a really large mouse, and then a couple more came out. So then we cautiously picked up those posts and then Diana asked us to organize these baskets and buckets too... I picked them up and dropped them to get the bugs off. I have never screamed so much in my life. Cockroaches DUMPED out. So then it was me, my comp, and Diana screaming as we ran away from the cockroaches- which can fly apparently 😳- and Barbara watched all of us from a distance. It must have been quite the sight. So yeah, that was an adventure. You don't usually get to say that you got to run away from cockroaches and scream at the top of your lungs with a 60 year old lady and your companion. Then afterwards we got to feed a cute bunny so it was all worth it.
I've grown up with the knowledge that God and Jesus Christ love everyone. Being out here on a mission has helped that knowledge really sink in. It's really incredible when you think about it. I was reading in Mosiah 13, and it talks about how we couldn't be saved without the Atonement of Jesus Christ and how even if we followed the commandments, that that wouldn't be enough to save us. We all make mistakes, but we're not our mistakes because of Christ. Because of Christ we can repent and become better. Heavenly Father loves us so much and wants us to return to Him, and that's why He gave us Christ. I love my Heavenly Father and my brother, Jesus Christ with all my being. ❤
I hope you guys realize how much they love you, have an awesome week :)
