November 30, 2020 - Preachin' to the cows

Image
Last week was awesome. We're still not allowed to eat in people's homes so we met as a district at the church and had Thanksgiving there. Members still made us food so we picked it up or they dropped it off. There was SO MUCH food it was amazing.  One of the families in our ward has some cows and the girls had been begging us to go see them so we did. They were so cute they were all like 4 or 5 months old and I wanted to smuggle them back to our apartment. They also had like 50 chickens and a stubborn little goat. It was a great time.  We met this lady named Stacy this week and oh my goodness I love her. She loves to talk and we gave her some movie suggestions and she watched all of them that night. Then yesterday we called her and shared the story about Peter walking on water and so we talked about faith and later she sent us a screenshot of a picture of Jesus walking on water that had popped up on her Facebook feed. She flipped out haha. She was like oh man this is a ...

Oh. My. Goodness. Last week was AMAZING. I love my new companion, Hermana Terry, and Bay City. Everyone here has a southern accent and I'm picking it up a little to be honest haha. We had a ton of lessons and we got to visit with so many members it was amazing. Very different in all aspects from my last area. We got to go to a baptism of this little boy in our ward and we brought our friend Emilee! She is so awesome, she's reading the Book of Mormon like there's no tomorrow and ah I just love her.  We went to a youth fireside last night at the Ethington's house and had s'mores. It was so fun. One thing that stuck out to me was when we were talking about receiving answers to our prayers and bishop said that in order to hear an answer, our hearts have to be ready. I had never really thought of that. Everyone wants immediate results and we lose faith if we don't get an answer right away. But if we have our question in our hearts and continue to have faith that we...

We had SO MUCH service last week it was crazy. We had the gardens per usual where we helped Jose clean the train that goes around the park. And then we also went to IMGH (Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston) twice and bagged dog food and helped pack up Thanksgiving meals. Then on Saturday we went to this cemetery and helped find gravestones. Hermana Crandall found a toilet and I found a broken flower pot so that was fun. Apparently the cemetery had been forgotten for a long time so now they're trying to get it to look nice and organize everything.  Now for the big news: I'm getting transferred!!! I found out yesterday that I'm going to Bay City which is an hour and a half away from where I am in Houston 2. My new comp is Hermana Terry and I'm so excited!! It was funny, the whole week Hermana Crandall kept saying that she was going to miss this person or that place (she thought she was leaving) and then I end up leaving haha. I'm gonna miss everyone but I...

November 9, 2020 - Heads!

We got to help Paola and her mom move in to their new apartment last week!! What a miracle! When we first started meeting with them in August, they said that they thought they'd be able to move in a year or so... and here they are in their new apartment! We helped them clean it and bring all their stuff over. I got a good workout from their stairs haha.  When we were at the gardens, this chunky squirrel comes running up to Hna Crandall and starts making the weirdest sound ever. Naturally, she screams and I just die laughing. It kept going back and forth to Hna Crandall and this bush so I took a pinecone and clocked that little sucker on the head. I dont know where he went after that but he's in a better place- away from my excellent aim. We also had exchanges and I was with Hermana Lofthouse again and we went to an Argentine restaurant and got THE BEST empanadas with 2 ft french fries. Delicious. I'm ready for Argentina 😂 Next week is transfers so me and Hermana Crandall...

I think the best part of last week was getting tamales from Maria. Nothing can beat homemade tamales. We went over to her house on Thursday and we get there and she asks if we are able to eat inside members houses yet and we tell her that we cant. So then she grins and takes us outside to eat on the trunk of her car. Nice one Maria. So we got to eat homemade chicken tamales with homemade salsa and a Pepsi on the back of a car. Highlight of my week. Then as we were going back inside, this burst of wind came and blew all of the corn husks off our plates and Hermana Crandall screams, "MIS TAMALES". I died hahaha. Then we went inside and had a good conversation about how the Lord knows us and watches over us- like waiting for us to eat all of our tamales before the wind could blow them away.  Friday was pretty awesome too. We found 2 people (we haven't been able to find anyone in a while so this was huge). One person we found was a referral named Maria so we called her and ...
