August 31, 2020 - When it rains, it freaking DUMPS

Image
This past week was hard. There were a solid 3 days that just sucked 😂. On one of the days, I just broke down and everything came out. It was not a pretty sight (my poor companion haha- nothing like puffy red eyes and smeared mascara). Both of us kinda moped around the rest of that day. After dinner, we went to the car to go grab Hermana Crandall's wallet. On our way, we ran into Gwen. Gwen is my favorite person ever. We don't get to see her as much because she works a lot, so we were super excited to see her. She started telling us about the things she was going through and how no one asks how she is. So we broke the quarantine rules and gave her a big hug. The three of us just stood there hugging in the middle of the parking lot for a couple of minutes. Naturally, we all started crying (I couldn't catch a break). Afterward, she thanked us for listening to her and for the hug and said that we had no idea how much we have impacted her life. 45 minutes later, we got Herman...

August 24, 2020 - Aflac? No, Alfred.

We actually did a lot of things last week which was nice. We took our car to the dealership and had to bike around that whole day (I love cars they are so wonderful). And then we went to CVS one night to print out some pictures to hand out. Well, actually we went to 2 CVSs. The computer at the first CVS stopped working so we went to another one a couple miles away. One of the workers there started talking to us. He was super nice! Then the conversation did a full 180 and he kinda paused and said that we were his 2nd chance. We were a little confused but then he said that a week or so ago someone asked if he wanted to go to church or something like that and he turned him down. But, he said, when he realized that we were missionaries, he saw that this was his 2nd chance. So he started asking all about our beliefs and missionaries and it was awesome. Also, the computer was suppperrrr slow there. But, I see that as a blessing in disguise because we were able to talk with him more. Th...

August 17, 2020 - I Got a Feeling/Pump it

Last week, one of the ladies that works at the gardens that we volunteer at gave us some black eyed peas...... and some other vegetables. Apparently black eyed peas are like the thing in Texas. She was shocked when we told her that none of us had tried them so yeah. Simmered those bad boys for 3 1/2 hours and voila: perfection.  On a more spiritual note, we had a lesson with this family and we talked about how important it is to have faith and endure, especially during this time. One thing that the family pointed our was how the world is always looking for what's next. We've all seen the news. We've all seen posts on social media. They're always worried or they make others worried about what's going to happen next. I think that in this confusion, we begin to rely on the wrong things, and those things are temporary. That's why we have trends and other worldly stuff. But, if we come to realize who we need to rely on in these times, we won't have to hop from ...

August 10, 2020 - Cranvid-19

My companion, Hermana Crandall, has been sick for like a week now and we thought she had Covid-19 so she got tested on Saturday and today we got a call saying she was negative. So hallelujah, we don't have to quarantine ourselves for 2 weeks.  Whenever we call or text people and ask how they're doing, they always reply with a,  "bien, gracias a Dios" (translation: good, thanks to God). While it kind of gets annoying, because everyone says that, it reminds me that we need to thank our Heavenly Father for everything that He has given us. Also, I found my new favorite scripture: Romans 8: 35, 38-39. It talks about how nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and Heaven Father and I love that so much. Today we went to the zoo for pday so here are some pics! Love you guys and have a great week ❤

August 3, 2020 - The mosquitos have awoken

Hola!  Mosquitos are literally eating me alive. It's not pleasant. Other than that, last week was good. We have been trying to find new people to teach but people rarely reply to our texts or calls. It's hard. We have one guy that we've been teaching since I first got here and he has SO many questions so it's been interesting to teach him. Other than him, we don't really have anyone. We had interviews with our mission president (Jeremy Guthrie). I can now officially say that I've thrown a baseball to a famous MLB player. I asked him if he played any other positions besides pitcher and he said that he played 3rd base sometimes but other than that, no because he's afraid of the ball. I thought that was pretty funny.  I've started reading the Book of Mormon again and oh my goodness I love it. Before my mission, I was  t e r r i b l e  at reading my scriptures. I would start reading it over and over because I just couldn't continuously read it for some r...
