September 28, 2020 - The hoof bone is connected to the ear? Bone?

Hermana Crandall and I had the amazing opportunity to try another food yesterday. So we picked it up, went home and then started to dig in. It looked like a stew thing so we grabbed a ladle and scooped some into our bowls. Lo and behold there was a pig's ear in my bowl. Last week I ate a hoof... i guess that was just the beginning. Both of us tried it after our district convinced us to. We got our reactions biting into it on camera. It was priceless. In short, we didnt like the texture at all and it landed back into our bowls. I don't know how I feel about pork anymore. We got to have zone conference in person on Saturday! AND we got to do it in Minute Maid stadium where the Astros play 😏 It was awesome. We had 3 main points: •If you build it, he will come •Ease his pain •Go the distance (This was actually from the movie "Field of Dreams" that President Guthrie let us watch on Friday). Honestly the movie was weird, but those three phrases really apply to missionary ...

SOOO many things happened last week. We volunteered at the gardens as usual and we all had a blast taking pictures and catching lizards. We got to have a lesson with Paola and her mom and it went super well. Then yesterday for church, Paola brought her friend Nelson. She's just awesome. And...... I finally got to go through the temple!!! My parents got to come to Texas and go through with me :) it was definitely a blessing that they were invited to come and that my mission president set up times to go.  Now for the title of my email- so Paola's mom called us and told us to come over to her house because she had made dinner for us. So, before eating it, I made the mistake of asking her what kind of meat it was. She then proceeded to tell us that it was pig feet...and then I realized that I was looking at their hooves on my plate. And, for some reason, I actually understand spanish for a second there and understood everything she said about the pig feet. I like meat, but my sto...

We got to do a lot of service last week which was awesome. Yesterday we got to volunteer for The House of Charity and handed out books to the kids that came. It was so fun. (Well except for the part that I was in the sun for 4-1/2 hours with no sunscreen... gotta love being pale). It was cool seeing everyone come together and help each other out. Oh and we volunteered at the EAC again and sorted shoes and clothes. When we were sorting the men's shoes, I pulled a pair out of a bag and looked in the shoe to see what size it was. And lo and behold there was a dead shriveled-up lizard in it. Hermana Crandall and I were dying laughing. Good times.  We also got to teach Paola twice last week which was awesome. Her testimony is so strong and she's already sharing the gospel with her friends and family. On Saturady we went to the park and played some games with her and taught her some lessons. It went well and we got to know her better! It was definitely a good week :) Love y'all...

September 7, 2020 - You scream, I scream, we all scream for... cockroaches?

We had a lot of exciting things happen last week. The most important thing that happened was that our friend Paola decided that she wants to be baptized!! She is SO excited it makes me so happy!!! So they have a difficult situation as a family, so please add them in your prayers! Even though they have so many trials in their lives, they have the biggest hearts. Last time they made us the most amazing tacos and after this lesson they went and bought us McDonald's :)) I love them so much! Okay now the funniest thing involved mouses (as my companion calls them) and A TON of cockroaches. So we were volunteering at the Japanese Gardens and we were the only volunteers that showed up so Diana and Barbara-they work there- asked us if we would clean up some wooded posts and organize them. So we started picking them up and ants started to destroy my ankles so we sprinkled some ant killer on those puppies and in 5 minutes it was fine. So then we started to take the posts out of this barrel. ...
